Dr. Houser-Thomas holds a Doctorate in Psychology, focusing on criminal behavior, a Masters Degree in Addiction Rehab and a Bachelors in Psychology & English. Over the past 30 years, she has worked as a therapist at all levels of treatment with offenders, addicts. and dually-diagnosed individuals.
Dr. Houser-Thomas is one of the founders of Addictions Resource Center, Inc. (ARC-ip); working with James Vanderwoude in 1993 to start the company. During this time she and James worked at the Clark County Sheriff's Office where she directed the prevention program "Saturday's Child." Saturday's Child (a program that placed a therapist with a deputy) won the Governor's Award for Best Prevention Program in 1995 under her direction. She took over ARC-ip in 1997 when James left to work at Crossroads Centre in Antigua. From 1997 to the present she built ARC-ip into the largest company of its type in Ohio. She continues to direct ARC-ip, Inc, expanding its locations and services based on court as well as consumer needs.
She is a devoted mom, veteran, a passionate animal lover, as well as an environmentalist. She founded the non-profit Beyond Creation in 2000, which built solar powered playhouses in schools as well as assisted in the siting of wind farms participating in the Sustainability Fair in Washington DC.
She has written two books: "An Era of Addiction" and "Living a Sustainable Lifestyle for Our Children's Children."
